This old Detroit home belies the greatness that was born here: the Motown Sound. But one step inside Hitsville, USA, the original house where Berry Gordy lived and recorded the Motown hits, and you'll catch the beat and spirit of this booming music era. Photos, costumes, artwork, music and other memorabilia take you back to simpler times.

If you love Motown music, and quite frankly how can you not, you will love this museum. Tucked away in an unassuming neighborhood, you will walk through the same rooms as legends of music like Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross and all your favorites....More

This was one of the best tours I have been on. Our tour guide (kaisha, I think) was excellent. She was knowledgeable and motivated the group to get in the mood.

I had a great time at Motown museum! Lot of photo opportunities outside the Museum. Our guide Jordan gave a very entertaining tour, he knew the history of place, was funny, and what's more, He was a good artist himself!

My spouse and I visited the Motown Museum on a Sunday morning in early July 2017. The museum is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm (with extended hours on Saturday evenings until 8:00 pm). Lucky for us, in the summer months,...More

This is one of the highlights of Detroit. The Docent Guides are fabulous. The tour connects you with the whole Motown Movement. A great history lesson is perseverance and great music.

There's street parking and plenty of it unless there's a funeral service going on at the funeral home next door. The admission was $15 but you can get 20% off by downloading and using a Detroit Go Card from online. There is absolutely no photography...More

A trip thru the history of America's best music. So much to experience, though the tour leaves little time to linger and review the displays and "relics" our guide, Caroline, was terrific and had a passion for her work. This is a not to be...More

The Motown Museum is an amazing place. It is packed full of Detroit's rich musical history. I only wish that the museum allowed more time in the different galleries. There is so much to see and read, but the docents rush you through. I was...More

We parked right on the street in front of the museum. It's a boulevard and very wide.

Yes, it will be open in October. The hours may be different so check the web-site. There are hotels in the downtown area and in surrounding suburbs but not, to my knowledge, within walking distance.
