We have noticed every time we have come down here in the past couple of years, they are making a lot of improvements. It had been a few months, but we see they are redoing the sidewalks and adding lighting and gates to the downtown area, tearing down or rehabbing buildings. There are a lot of new restaurants and such... More

I moved to Detroit in 1968, the year after the riots. Downtown was a ghost town then & went downhill from there, but has gradually been resurrected into a hip, happenin' city with many new restaurants, bars, cool places to live & stay and fun things to do.

On a recent trip to Downtown it has improved but going from a negative 10 to a 3 does not make it NYC, Atlanta, Orlando, Austin, or other popular destination cities. I only had a gun pulled on me once in all my years so I crime was never a problem and in my most recent stroll it was fine.... More

The last 20 years or so has seen Downtown Detroit shake of it's old image to become quite a place to visit. Great shops, restaurants, sporting venues and Casinos have made this a place to be and be seen. Wonder around and explore Detroit in this very safe environment. Eat, drink and be merry in this newely reinvented metropolis!

Downtown Detroit is making a great come back, many concerts, great parks, places to eat, small businesses moving in. Highly recommend spending the day downtown exploring

Walked a lot and used the People Mover. Felt very safe. The city has a way to go before it is "back" but was still a nice weekend to catch the Wings.

Downtown Detroit, is really experiencing a revival. All the beautiful old buildings that were once abandoned have been renovated or are being renovated. The city has taken steps to ensure that it is what they call "activated". In addition to walking to view the beautiful architecture that now houses well-known companies and several hipster-type places. There are several small plazas... More

I had a great time strolling around downtown Detroit, snapping photos on a blustery March morning. The city surprised me; there are more huge buildings than I was expecting, and like many midwestern cities the buildings are spread out around wide streets in a nicely planned layout. I saw several city employees keeping the streets clean, and a few security... More
