The Sand Point Lighthouse was constructed in 1867 to direct ships around the Sand point and into the deep water channel of the Escanaba Harbor. This building, with a 4th order Fresnel lens, has been restored to its original appearance, with a turn of the century interior. The building and grounds are on the National Register of Historic Places.

My buddy and I have been traversing the lake from Ludington all weekend and find all the lighthouse sites pretty cool if I say so myself. This one has a nice "yard" and boat house to boot. There is a tribute to the Coast Guard...More

The historical museum is literally right next door. Visit the light, read the history, and tour the grounds. Beautifully maintained and a must do on your visit! You can't miss it, the road dead ends into the lighthouse at the bay.

The lighthouse was not open when we were there. That being said it had quite a bit of signage so you could get a feel of the history. Very well kept and tidy!

The lighthouse was cute, $5 got our family in. We had a 4 year old and 6 year old and I was surprised at how into it they were. Next door was a museum with a wide variety of exhibits, the kids kept finding something...More

Throughout the US and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan...Door County, and Lake Superior...there are some spectacular and wonderful Lighthouses...Sand Point Lighthouse is "extremely" average. The site is ok and nicely restored...but...again, not a dramatic and beautiful lighthouse with a dramatic history. I like visiting and...More

Lighthouse is open 11-4 all days and admission includes the adjacent museum. Climb the lighthouse, enjoy the view from 30 degrees at the top, enjoy the rooms on both the main and 2nd floors. Low cost and well worth it.

Arrived in Escanaba late in the afternoon. Drove around and found the lighthouse ten minutes before closing. Immediately scurried around the lighthouse and then over to the Historical Museum. Too little time for this magnificent museum! What a treasure for this town! Could have spent...More

Sorry I don't remember. We were there about 2:00 p.m. in the afternoon on a weekday. The place was manned by one volunteer and seems to be very well known. You may want to call the town of Escanaba, they may be able to... More

The lighthouse was redone years ago to what it looked like when people actually ran the lighthouse (bedroom, kitchen, parlor, ect.) There still is a light (house) in the water but it's not manned and you can't get to it... More
