This preserve located on the east side of Grand Rapids provides an excellent nature experience. The wooded trails go through a variety of ecosystem types including streams, woods, ponds, wetlands, etc. A nice walk for a break or a more leisurely stroll.

A nice walk and we enjoyed it during different times of the day. My son took his camera and got some great nature shots.

Who would believe...a serious nature preserve...within the city? This Calvin College nature preserve has wonderful trails, excellent species variety, and an impressive facility for nature education. Also there are several programs providing exposure to flora and fauna within the preserve.

We, our family, love this place ! If you are zipping along the East Beltline, you may miss it but it's an awesome Natural get-away ! It is a great place for an enjoyable, reflective walk in Nature, seemingly in the heart of Suburbia ! Great for kids or adult kids of any age ! We love Jeanette and the... More

A great way to spend a quiet hour or so. Lovely trees, saw a couple of snapping turtles in the pond from the lookout - great place to just listen to the birds.

Wonderful nature center on the Calvin college campus. You can see animals, flowers, birds all of which vary due to the time of year. A well maintained path takes you through the center in about a half hour.

Our most recent visit consisted of frog and toad watching. It was their courtship and mating time. We had a great time watching the Barred Owl parents feed and care for their young.

The Arboretum had a l-o-n-g line for its Sunday exhibit, so we drove away and hit this quiet place along Beltline Ave., not too far away. There were only three other people at the Ecosystem Preserve, plus the birds and chipmunks. Although the bare trees were still in winter slumber, it was a lovely walk on a sunny day. The... More

This is a beautiful gem right near Calvin's campus. The college does an amazing job maintaining this preserve. There are spots to sit and enjoy the beautiful scenery, wildlife, and ponds. Wonderful spot for a reflective walk.
