Big surprise for Grand Rapids, there were quite a few pieces of furniture from various periods on display. The display of collections was very interesting. But my favorite piece, was a video of two guys with brooms, sweeping piles of trash forming the hands of a clock for twelve hours. (At least I assume they did it for 12 hours)

The impressive building design is enough to venture on in, but there is plenty of art to see as well. Not quite the displays of larger art museums but if your in town, its worth a visit. Tuesdays are free.

The modern design is appealing. I've visited for ArtPrize events, Festival of the Arts, stopped in to see a certain exhibit as well as doing yoga on a Thursday night! Great place to wander around and look at the arts.

Impressive collection, for a museum and city this size-- good sample Impressionism, post-Impressionism, some top notch Expressionist works, a large large modern collection. Prints by Goya, Pirenesi and Henri Riviere were, to my mind, the highlights. All in all, far better than I expected. If you are in GR, go!

The museum has great changing exhibits especially during ArtPrize. I love the amount of events they sponsor such as Yoga at the Gram, outdoor music shows in front of the building during the summer, and free Thursday nights. It's an excellent way to see the museum and experience the city and art.

Whenever I come to Grand Rapids for Art Prize, this is my first stop as it is a beautiful museum and displays unique pieces. They have a great gift shop where I can always find unique gifts for Christmas.

Even though they were in between some exhibits when I went there, the art I was able to see was well worth it. The explanations next to the pieces help you learn about the artist and the pieces themselves, and the museum is simple yet beautiful. I look forward to returning to see future exhibits.

Now I am not comparing this art museum to the 'greats' of the world, but I have been in small town art museums that have a much larger, better collection (such as Terre Haute, Youngstown, Davenport). The building itself is spacious and beautiful but their permanent collection is not worth going out of your way for - if you can... More

We decided to stop in and tour the museum while we were in town. Now I may be biased because I live in Cleveland and our art museum is huge and has a ton of art. I felt like there was hardly any art here. There are three floors in the museum and about two of three floors mainly had... More
