Windmill Island Gardens is home to de Zwaan windmill, the last mill allowed to be transported from the Netherlands. de Zwaan still functions by grinding locally-grown grain into flour that is sold to visitors and local businesses. A highlight of visiting is a tour of this historic working windmill. Visitors can enjoy music from our antique Dutch street organ given to the City of Holland by the City of Amsterdam after World War II. Children can also ride on our antique carousel from the Netherlands. There are several other replica Dutch buildings and shops. The Island is home to beautiful gardens which feature tulips in the spring followed by beautiful annuals and perennials throughout the summer. Please note that the Island is open seasonally, April 16 - October 2, 2016. Last tickets sold at 5 pm.

The beauty of this place is remarkable and one can imagine being transported back in time and place to the Netherlands years ago.

Beautiful place. Since we went in January, the place was close but we walked around and the wintery beauty was sublime. A must visit in Holland,MI.

For others, this may be a pseudo trip to the Netherrands, but I rank it about 'average' as an attraction. At 'Tulip Time' ( early May) a stop here would enhance the Holland, MI experience and maybe you'd leave with a more favorable opinion than my own, but touring Windmill Island in August was not as expected. The gift shop... More

Standing on a low lying island at the head of Lake Macatawa, just a short walk from downtown Holland, Michigan you will find the Zwan, a fully functioning Dutch windmill that still grinds graham flour and cornmeal between wind driven millstones under the control of the only certified miller, who is a member of a Dutch miller's guild. The Island... More

This is a great area. Beautiful gardens and windmills. It is easy to access and well worth the time. We spent about 3 hours there.

If you can't make the trip across the pond to The Netherlands, then make the trip to Holland's very own Windmills Island. It will be worth the trip and plan on spending the afternoon!

We weren't even there for tulip season but we still really enjoyed out visit here. The highlight of the place was the DeZwaan Windmill. Be sure to take the free tour! It was interesting to learn about the history of the windmill & how it got the US and also about how it is still used today to make flour.... More

On the way back home we decided to make a quick detour to Holland, MI to see the windmill and it was so worth it! From the second you park and enter it feels like a whole new country. The architecture of the park is unique the garden is gorgeous and the walk to the windmill is enchanting. Bonus there... More
