This is a lovely temple built over a 1000 years ago by the Cholas. The capital of the Cholas was in this town for some time during their rule. The temple grounds are clean and green and a very pleasant sight. Highly recommended.

Although not as impressive as Raja Raja's Periyar Koil, still a place not to be missed. Be prepared to travel a bit as it takes about an hour and a half to reach from Thanjavur town. Also a UNESCO heritage site.

the temple is closed at 12 noon.. I had visited minutes after 12 noon and it was already being closed about 3 months back. best bet is to go before 12 noon or after 4 30 pm. you can still go in to the outer prahara when the... More
