The old walled town of Khiva...or Uzbekistan's first Disneyland as we dubbed it. This is a Unesco world heritage site, and in danger of loosing that status any minute now. As our guide said, it has been "reconstructed". Not conserved, protected or restored, but reconstructed....More

We walked and walked in this area - its small, its compact. its delightful. Regrettably we were here only for one night. The night time lighting of the monuments - do NOT miss. The whole city, especially this area, has an incredible charm to it.

The view of the old city from above is a definite thing to include. Start at the north gate and go west and then south to an end around the Ark, at which point you have the best view over the religious city. Unfortunately it...More
