The inside is stunning but make sure you go up top. The pictures from the roof are unbelievable. Cost for the roof is $3

I knew I wanted to visit the Basilica even before I came to Leon as I heard many things about it. And it didn't fail to impress once I was there. Of course you must buy a ticket and climb a few narrow stairways to the roof. Because the whole building is under renovation, you need to take off your... More

The cathedral is just beautiful! Beautiful paintings, beautiful wooden sculptures. If it's a sunny day, go on the roof. The view is amazing. The very white and bright rooftop with the blue sky... You get a good view on the surronding volcanos, you can even see the smoke coming out the Momotombo volcano. It is well worth the US$3. The... More

The inside of this cathedral is magnificent. Many paintings, statues and gilt work. I did not go to the roof and gardens, but the gardens looked very pretty through the doorway. I enjoyed walking and seeing the beautiful works.

This is a beautiful Cathedral, inside and out. We climbed the stairs to the roof for a spectacular Star Wars type view of the top of the white painted domes of the Cathedral and an excellent view of the city. If you are not even slightly religious I'm sure you will find time spent sitting quietly inside will be totally... More

The inside of the church is bland and boring - unlike the ones you see in Europe with colours and gothic theme. The rooftop was a nice surprise - no shoes allowed and even though you have a time frame of 25 mins, no one's checking! The rooftop reminded me of Santorini for its white paint and dome shapes. Has... More

Leon, completes the tri-cities of Granada and Managua that play a symbolic significance for the country. It was the capital of Nicaragua until 1851 when Managua took over. It takes about an hour and a half drive from Managua by public transport. Like the other cities, Leon has many cathedrals that identifies with colonial Nicaragua. The cathedral of Leon, has... More

The Cathedral of León is a must see for any visitor to this historic city. Built by the Spaniards in 1747, the entire front and right facades have been cleaned and repainted. Approaching the city center from the south, the cathedral is gleaming white in the sun. It sits on the northern end of the Parque Central, the immense plaza,... More
