The beach itself is not the best one of Nicaragua but if you give it a chance you will enjoy it! Furthermore, I do believe that Peñitas has one of the best sunsets you can ever see!

We took a large group here. It was delightful. Lunch at one of the local places was delicious and the waves were succint. A highly recommended day trip away from the bustle and heat of Leon.

Such a gorgeous little town, beautiful beach, safe to swim and very relaxing. Would recommend to every traveler to Leon

A very nice beach to spend time watching the surfers. We parked and had a filling lunch at Suyapa restaurant. We strolled the wide beach and enjoyed the waves crashing at the shoreline.

Las Penitas is pretty beach town about twenty minutes from Leon. I would say it's more of a beach for surfers, not the leisure traveler who wants to lie on the beach & dip into the water. The water is rough& and very difficult if...More

Very easy to get there from leon. Chicken bus goes directly for 14 cordobas. Great place to go very beautiful and the water is so warm! Watch out for the waves... its pretty strong.

I took a taxi to go to the beach. Every one said to take the bus which is safe but 3 buses stopped and said they were not the bus to the beach. So after waiting for 45 min. I hailed a taxi and took...More

Really disappointed by the beach, the surrounding shops, restaurants, and condition of the area. The beach was covered in rubbish and was not at all inviting. Wouldn't recommend at all.

Spent the last few days of my Nica trip here. Super relaxing and quiet, though it is low season. It's a surf beach really (think crashing waves) so not the best for a casual swim, but exactly what I needed.

Yes you could get a taxi, and might be more economical if you could share one with others at your hostel or lodging. I don't recall the name of the bus terminal but it was not one of the larger ones. I think it was the... More

KPR77 gave a very thorough answer so I won't add to that other than to say that while my spouse and I have been completely comfortable on the local buses in 4 months of living here, doing the negotiations to get from the... More
