A magical place, strolling along the river you leave civilisation behind and climb into a wild river valley surrounded by mountains. Whilst it was quite busy it's still a majestic sight to behold, and the first part of the walk wasn't too strenuous even for our 3yr old. We didn't go all the way to the end but we certainly... Visited with family in August 2016. Absolutely stunning and a lovely walk up and back. Not too hard going as long as you wear the right shoes. Walking poles recommended for the last part of the walk up to the waterfall which was amazing. This whole area is so beautiful and I can't wait to go back.

Not knowing exactly what we were getting ourselves into my wife and I ventured up the valley from Luz-Saint Saveur with a pack of picnic provisions and a day to just hike wherever we were led. We were led by others, over breakfast, to Gavarnie and a walk up a valley to the Cirque de Gavarnie that was wondrous beyond... More

Possibly because of all the religious groups sharing the path, but mainly because of the wondrous nature of this place, this whole experience had the feel of a sacred pilgrimage. And the Cirque de Gavarnie is indeed worthy of such devotion and reverence. It was surprising well organised in the village, with stewards directing you to a car parking space... More

My husband and I hiked to the base of the falls. It is not a difficult hike, but wear appropriate footwear and take along water. There are a few rather areas to cross over, but the trails are well maintained. As you near the falls, the going gets a little slippery, but not insurmountable. There is a restaurant serving limited... More

Having arthritic knees was a little unsure of this walk! However, taken gently it is quite possible and well worth the effort. As you progress into the cirque it is obvious why it was such a Mecca for early tourists and still remains so. The closer you go the more impressive it becomes and it really is worth pushing for... It was an absolutely beautiful view. We did a horse ride, we only had time for the shortest ride (30mins €12 each) It was well worth it, we loved it and would have happily paid double for the experience.

Some mid level trekking will take you to one of the most impressive landscapes in the Pyrenees, the Cirque de Gavarnie, recognised as the highest waterfall in Europe. You won't be disappointed. Those less willing to walk can opt for horseback or mule transport.

Walk to the bar/restaurant isn't an issue just make sure you've got good walking shoes on for the 2nd part. Just a wonderful part of the Pyrenees & when you get to the waterfall the spray on your face is wonderful:-)

Very well organised parking. 1 million visitors per year but no problem to find a place despite the impressive number of parked cars. It is an easy walk up to the restaurant located in front of the cirque. The village is beautiful and quiet. Children enjoy the help of horses.
