This course is designed as a "links" style course..? If you aren't getting to Scotland anytime soon, this is the IDEAL set up for you to play! Not for the beginner or faint of heart. It is CHALLENGING. Lol, unless you're a scratch golfer, bring a few extra golf balls..you'll probably need them. What a great golf experience though.. Amazing... More

Tough golf challenge for us non-European duffers! Pristine condition, it ain't. Challenging and interesting, it is. Rock Bottom (sorry Scratch!) deals to be had here for golf, lodging, food packages, etc. Yes, you'll be "roughing" it in most respects vs. going to Pinehurst, Pebble Beach, Kohler or even Boyne, A-ga Ming, et al, but the prices - ooh la-la!

If you don't know where you are going-you are a goner. Make sure you pick up a map of each hole. It really does help. Personally I enjoyed the challenge. The bunkers are the type you see in Scotland. DEEP and TALL. If you are up close to the inside edge, your only way out is backward or the side.... More

The Gailes is a tough test of golf. The resort is showing its age and needs a refresh. The Gailes will test every facet of your game

Very impressive layout, instantly jumped into my top half dozen in the state. Great condition for the amount of play it gets, with fast true greens. It gets more difficult with the steady winds coming of Lake Huron. Several big boy par 4's at 420+ from the white tee's and 450+ from the blues. Balls are actually fairly easy to... More

I was part of a golf trip that went to Lakewood Shores at the end of May and we were happy to have shot the Gailes a few times. It is a great Links style course. If you stay in the fairway it is a course you can still put up a good score(But isn't that every course). This course... More

Just loved the uniqueness and layout, already booked another trip here. Trust me, this course is a world class track, very different than anything you will find in Michigan - never been to Scotland but have been told "this is what it's like" - I've been coming to Lakewood Shores over 15 years and personally rate The Gailes as high... The Gailes is a links course full of pot bunkers and heather, a sweeping vista that reminds you of the Scottish courses that you see on TV. A good shot can easily turn into disaster with the number of pot bunkers and deep bunkers with sodded faces on the course. We were there with 4 couples - a few of... More

Be sure you take enough balls! We heard this from many players and were glad we listened. The course was in very good shape except several cups were set crooked. Flags would not stay straight. A true links course with lots of heather, grasses and sod backed bunkers. Have never played a course without hole markers - nothing to indicate... More
