We were headed back to Chicago, destination Indiana Dunes Nat'l Lakeshore -- but began running out of time and daylight. So we settled for the Saugatuck Dunes State Park. It was not a settling! We parked and found short trails through a lovely hardwood forest (mostly), which wound their way to dunes with great views of the lake, then the... More

First of all if you are looking to visit a state park and check out a beautiful small town, Saugatuck is the place for you! I went here in late fall and it was perfect weather to hike around. I will say it was a little difficult to navigate the trails since there are not much in terms of signs... More

Nice surprise beach after the bald head stair climb. Beautiful hike.We totally enjoyed the walk by the beach and climb up the dunes. Sand was chill and weather was warm. Michigan never cease to amuse us.

This is a beautiful place, but not for anyone. You have a walk through the wood a ways, which is nice, but not everyone is up for a long walk. The beach is not usually crowded and is nice

We took the Livingston Trail from the parking lot to the beach which was about 1.4 miles each way. The hike was beautiful and fairly easy though there were some parts that were sandy making it a bit more difficult to walk.

Loved hiking here. We have been here year round and it is just as lovely, no matter what time of year. Prepare for wind regardless of the time of year though.

OMG I thought I'd have a heart attack. It was at least a mile to the beach from the parking lot. NO bathrooms along the way, very steep return climb. don't recommend it unless you're in top shape.

This is a nice state park on the shores of Lake Michigan. It has a beautiful beach. The walk from the parking lot to the beach is a little long, if one compares it to other state parks on the shores of Lake Michigan. The sand is great.

Beautiful views of Lake Michigan. It was pretty empty when we were there. Maybe due to the rain. Great beach.

We went for a couple of days in Saugatuck. One day we rode our bikes, climbed Mt. Baldy and hiked around down to Oval Beach. Very challenging terrain with the sand! Saw a lot of wildlife. Make sure to take bug spray!! We drenched ourselves in natural oil bug spray and ended up having to add a little DEET to... More
