HOURS Sunday - Thursday: 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday: 11:30 a.m.-11 p.m. Good ideas often start over beer. Always looking to take a good thing too far, we sat down over a beer (or two) and decided that beer itself was a good idea. Of course, not just some easy-drinking, institutional prole beer, but stuff like the beers we'd had at great bars. In short, we wanted beer with flavor. Complexity. Character. Intensity. Not words found in the mass-market lexicon. So with a banjo burner, a bunch of industrial-sized kitchen pots and as many buckets as we could find, we jumped in feet first. Once a week, every week. This led to brewing twice a week and handing out bottle after bottle to everyone we knew. Now, several years later and with a 15 bbl version of our banjo burner and kitchen pots for a brewhouse, we're befuddling the beer judges and converting the masses. One pint at a time. Located in the small lakeside town of Sawyer, MI, Greenbush crafts beers with names like Anger, Closure, Mammoth and Doomslayer-and with nothing under 6% ABV, the monikers are indicative of the styles. The brewery serves beer and a full menu out of its Sawyer taproom seven days a week and currently distributes to bars, restaurants and retailers throughout the state of Michigan, in metro Chicago and Northern Indiana.

Just off the highway on my way from Chicago to the Saugatuck area, this place is perfectly located for a quick (ok, maybe longer) stop. The group A beers are the standards and very good-if you like Black Pale Ales, then Anger is your beer....More

My husband and I stumbled across Greenbush while wine-tasting one weekend. The wineries in SW Michigan close their tasting rooms around 5-6 pm and we were looking for a place to eat when one of the guys at a winery told us to check out...More

Sawyer is not a town that you think of as a destination but, a pleasant surprise awaits you if you take the exit. Greenbush Brewing Company is right on the main drag in an old building on the North side of the road. The beer...More

Its packed on the weekends. Lots of new beers to try. Food is light but really good. Root beer for the kids. Come to Sawyer for a nice micro brew.

I always have a great time at Greenbush! I waited and waited for them to open. The beers are generally very good, and it can be quite fun to see what they are developing as well. I have yet to eat, but everything looks very...More

May be a good bar for locals, but as an outsider my wife and I could not get the bartender's attention to place an order. Walked to both ends of the bar and waited while he served those seated at the bar. It was not...More

Definitely drop by this small local brew shop. The seating capacity is limited in its small tasting room, but the craft beers are tasty and original. The barkeeps are knowledgeable and friendly and willing to let you swig before settling on a choice. At any...More
