Fantastic acreage with trails, ponds and natural areas. This old mental institution has been renovated to include condominiums, professional offices and, under one structure, former steam tunnels were redeveloped into shops and restaurants. Well worth a visit on the edge of downtown Traverse City. Community...More

Transformed from an institution to a unique shopping area. Very crowded and high end prices but fun to stroll through. End up at Stella's for lunch or dinner.

Very unique concept to change a mental health hospital into a place of boutique, restaurants, and hipster apartments/dwellings, but I still got an eerie vibe knowing what it was for so long. It may suit some, but for me that eerie feeling persists even after...More

Touring the Commons was educational, interesting and fun! There is a rich history of the Commons, and our tour guide Joe is knowledgeable and made the tour a lot of fun.

The tour was great! Just walking around the property and old buildings at night was awesome. The stories were interesting but........ my only complaint would be that the guide could’ve memorized the stories instead of reading them from the book. He also could’ve been a...More

There are many old photos with descriptions as you walk around. You may certainly walk around as I did and get a feel for the place as it was. But you are experiencing it as it is as well.
