Step onto a working 1860s farm, home to Oliver H. Kelley, founder of the first successful national farming organization, the Order of Patrons of Husbandry, better known as the Grange. Activities follow the farming cycle and change with the season, making each visit unique. Visitors can meet the animals in the barn, help work in the fields and gardens, and see what's cooking in the farmhouse. The Oliver Kelley Farm is a National Historic Landmark and is open May through October.

I've taken my pre-k through elementary aged children here several times. All of our visits were before the recent remodeling. On the times we've gone, we've met with costumed workers that are able to explain how farm life operated in a simpler time. My kids loved petting the animals and finding the kitties in the barn. On one occasion, they... More

Brand new visitors center as of this week. Went for the first time with our 9 and 12 year old kids and grandparents. We stayed 2 hours and everyone had a good time. Lots of interaction with animals, chores, and a historical way of life.

perfect for a banquet of a wedding reception with its new visitors center. Very well done new building and parking is very ample. I enjoyed the venue I attended and recommend highly.

My 2 year old daughter and I went on a Friday afternoon which was nice as there weren't many people there at that time. It was great to see the oxen pulling in a load full of oats from the field when we first arrived. I would suggest having children be a little older as she couldn't help with many... More

We used to live close to here and often visited to experience MN history firsthand. It's best to go on a day with a special event: harvesting, bailing hay, wedding were some of the choices back when we visited. People are dressed in period clothing and present information in an easy to understand way. I remember hearing one staff member... More

Wife and I took two of our granddaughters, ages 3 1/2 and 5 today. Beautiful weather, 79 and sunny. Today was molasses making day. Besides seeing the farm as it operated in the 1800s, we participated. The girls helped make ginger bread and molasses candy, from scratch the old fashioned way. Then they stripped leaves form the sorgum plant stalks... More

A great place to take kids who love history and animals. Really enjoyed their Fourth of July celebration. The old fashion games where fun. Excited to see the new building when it is done.

It was really hot today for our visit. It is a working farm and the staff don't seem to mind the heat one bit! My girls are 4th and 5th grade and love helping. The staff will put you to work if you are willing. We started in the kitchen preparing for the evening meal. The girls washed the salad,... More

It was realistic to what times would have been like when Olive Kelley was alive and living there. A great place for kids, but mostly if you're into MN history. I live in Elk River, so I don't have to travel far to experience the Farm. I probably wouldn't go if I had to drive a long ways with kids.
