Myself and five other friends just took a winter trip up to Cuyuna for some fat biking while staying at the Yurts. First, the mountain biking - it's honestly some of the best trails in Minnesota (I typically ride at Theo Wirth, Elm Creek, Lebanon, Lake Rebecca and Mammoth), with some 26 miles of single track that's fast, flowing, with... Beautiful hiking and biking trails around the old mine pits. Hiking trails are paved and easy walking. This area also offers camping. The mine pits are water filled now and offer great birding and recreation.

I don't recommend staying at the yurts during summer months. The mosquito were awful. It is difficult to access the small lake by the yurts. The yurts themselves are cute, but not ideal for summer sleeping. The yurts should have been placed over by the Pennington boat landing. That would have been MUCH more ideal location. They are remote and... More

We were surprised to find this charming campground right outside of Ironton, MN. The campground needs some TLC. The bathrooms are old and need to be updated, but because we are self-contained we didn't have to use them. The sites were nice because they are fairly far apart, so you don't feel like you would be right on top of... More

Cuyuna's mountain biking trails are incredible!! Fun, challenging, well mapped out. Trails are colour coded based on skill level on the map sort of like a ski resort. There literally something for all levels of riders. Numbered markers on the trails make it easy to find your way around the trails and reference the map. The new rally Center is... More

from mtn biking, hiking, and fishing this place has lots to offer. Ive done all three and the biking is the best by far. Busy on the weekends so book your lodging early or get a campsite off-site but space is limited otherwise deerwood and brainerd have hotels.

The county has done a fantastic job of building and maintaining a superior mountain biking trail system. We had so much fun! The trails flowed beautifully and we appreciated the facilities at the trail head. Can't believe there are no user fees!

We took our fat tire bikes out on the trails and could not get enough! I felt like a kid again and it brought back memories of me dirt biking along trails. However, I love the exercise of pedal power over engines. We really enjoyed bobsled, chute, and mucker mountain. We are already planning out another trip here.
