I started my exploration of Minneapolis here and let me tell you - it's a great view of the city skyline. There isn't much else around but it's a good place to start.

Run by national park. Free tours will take you out onto locks. Tour takes ~ 30 minutes. This summer tour times were 11 AM, 1 PM and 3 PM (I'm guessing this changes depending on season),

The lock and dam has very little activity. There are lots of other things to see and do nearby but I wouldn't go out of my way to see this lock and dam.

It is kind of an industrial looking area, but they have tried hard to spruce their area up as much as possible.

The National Park Service is now managing the lock and dam since it is closed for navigation. They offer three tours a day everyday and the tours are led by a ranger and go out on to the lock. Lot's of history and cool information...More

This is a good place to see a lock & dam system. It's very interesting to watch the water level changed for boats to pass thru the lock & dam, especially a big boat.

I've been through the lock several times on chartered boat rides. That is pretty cool. If you walk there, it is accessible while you are doing all of the other riverfront parks and activities. They weren't giving tours when I was there. I think they...More
