Amazingly large monument honoring German heritage. Second only in size to the Statue of Liberty! 99 step climb for the lovely view of the valley.

The statue is easy to find at the top of a hill. A nice park area to sit and relax. The statue itself is rather large and you can pay $3 to go up to the top for a river valley view.

During the week of NFL playoffs, my boyfriend, son, and I stopped here. A group of MN Vikings fans had performed the SKOL chant on this structure at this site. It was a warmer winter day. We enjoyed being out and walking around the outside...More

There is a nominal fee for climbing the stairs to the top of Hermann the German. The view of the Minnesota Valley is lovely and the museum is very interesting. This New Ulm landmark is not to be missed.

This is an interesting site and provides a wonderful view of New Ulm and the surrounding area. The last bit of the climb may be tricky if you have mobility issues (or are afraid of heights), but it's worth it.

The statue was impressive and you have a great view from the grounds of New Ulm and surrounding valley. Recommend visiting even when it’s closed as there is enough info posted.

This monument, which is super old by US standards, and culturally significant sits atop a hill, making it look even larger. Great views of the town from here. Even if it's not open, it's worth a short stop here.

Visited on a beautiful fall afternoon. The interpretive center is beautifully done and provides great history of the monument and the town. The view at the top is worth the couple of bucks to climb the stairs. The surrounding park offers a great playground, picnic...More

Hermann the German is located in a small park. The statue rises over the city. there are steps that lead up to a platform for a panoramic view of New Ulm. There are picnic tables to enjoy a family outing.
