This is a great place to come to get away from it all. We actually got a little turned around out on the trails, but managed to find our way back to the parking lot after we found a map! Wear bug spray! Since some of the trail is near the river, it can get buggy!

I've hiked this trail with my two labs many times over the years. They keep adding more land and turning fields into prairies and woodland along the Cannon River.

Walking around the Arb is a favorite past-time for locals as well as the Students and Staff. The grounds are beautiful and easy to traverse for a short or long walk.

A beautiful location chosen by a nephew for his wedding. Young people ove the outdoors and it is accessible by elders as well.

As another review here noted, the navigation is a bit confusing. I also think that some parts of the arboretum are getting a bit overgrown. There were plants so tall around the benches , the views across the pond were heavily obstructed. Nevertheless, the setting is very peaceful and lovely with the little bridges and islands across the pond. The... More

We were on a college visit and took a run on the miles of trails through woods and fields. Nice varied terrain and I imagine the cross-country trails in the winter are amazing!

It is not easy to navigate; even with a map. The trails are not well- marked and the only thing to tell you where you are going is if you stay on a paved trail. Pretty sightseeing though.

This is an arboretum of Carleton college and a managed wild-life refuge. It extends on either side of the main road, with many trails, all beautiful. Great for birding. Hunting is probably permitted in the winter months. The upper arboretum nearer the college leads to an elevated area with seating which has a lovely view of the area, fabulous at... More

If you want to spend an afternoon on a leisurely walk through beautiful surroundings try the Cowling Arboretum. My days of running have passed but a stroll through this site will make you wish you could still run. This park is well maintained, there are abundant nature trails for you to discover, and the Carleton College buildings are architectural successes.... More

One can be as active as one wants as it is a great place for meandering through the tree lined paths; sit quietly at several spots to meditate and enjoy the beauty and silence; bring a buddy for a casual chat while you walk at a fairly quick pace; jog or do an outright run. Children can be free to... More
