Jazz Club now named Vieux Carre.

Best authentic Jazz club in St. Paul. Great food too. Many local and national jazz ensembles perform in this basement venue.

Good trio tonight with talented piano, clarinet. Not sure where they found the ham handed stand up bass player....spoiled the finesse and style of the other two musicians. I think the gumbo was two days old. Too bad it probably had potential on Sunday. 😟 still, I would try it again it suggest eating elsewhere first. Decent cocktail.

We wanted to get out of our home after dinner on a recent week-night. This worked well. Singer and four instrumental for back-up and solos. Seasoned professionals, all. And a respectful, appreciative audience.

You have to work at finding this place. It's in the basement of the Hamm Building in downtown St. Paul. Parking is nearby. Basically, it's a downstairs meeting room converted into a nightclub, and WOW, what music! The place went under last year, and I believe Target financed the resurgence. It is a treasure because of the music. This is... More

The AQ is a great venue for the serious jazz fan. In the basement of the historic Hamm building in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota, the AQ is dark and cozy with affordable drinks, an affordable cover charge, and excellent service. Although there is no kitchen food can be ordered in from two neighboring restaurants, just ask the bartender for the... More

Very nice venue for jazz. Really great not to get ripped off at the door with ticket prices. However, we listened to the Pete Whitman quartet and the music was inaccessible. Amazing musicians but not listener friendly. Also, if your website says you will start at 9 PM, then don't start at 9:30. It gives a real insider-we-do-what-we-want kind of... More

NYC-based Tenor sax giant Eric Alexander plays the Artists' Quarter (AQ) every Memorial Day -- this was the 10th year he's done so, and the 2nd time we've caught this gig. Eric Alexander is one of the greatest hard-bop sax players in the entire world - no one will argue with that statement. He plays w/ local cats at the... More

Best place in the twin cities for Jazz. It never disappoints. Dark and cozy atmosphere with good sound quality. A great place to relax and unwind/ Listen to some great players. Very comfortable, good sight lines, small tables and one of the best bartenders ever. Cover charge is affordable and no drink minimum. The only downside is they do not... More
