If you have read "On the Banks of Plum Creek" then this is a must see location. It is on private property, but the owners allow you to visit for a small per person fee. Ample parking and a picnic area if you desire. They...More

This is the actual location where Charles Ingalls made the family's dugout. It's land owned by a family who bought it to farm and later learned it had belonged to the Ingalls family. They preserved the area, added some signs, and charge $5 per carload...More

If you were a fan of the show Little House on the Prairie then this is a place that you will love. Their original belongings are present and you can see the places that Laura wrote about in her books.

Nice place to visit for the historic value. Be aware that there isn't much left of the original dug out home other then a depression on the side hill. Still worth the stop.

Wonderful to see the site, the grasses and flowers. Beautiful creek you can dip your feet into. Dugout site, but no actual dugout.

The house is ruins, which is written, but you actually wouldn't see it if there was no sign, unlike some other ruins. The landscape sure is pretty though. The creek is very peaceful.

I am not sure which homestead this is referring to. Sites in Desmet are either on a non busy city street, or at a large farm so I would say yes depending on how busy the area was. You could even park a ways and walk some... More
