We drive US 61 pretty often. It is normally a well maintained road. We often take it from Wabasha to the Twin Cities. Wabasha to Red Wing is a two lane portion of the road. The gas station in Frontenac is closed. We also drive South to La Crosse & that section of the road is 4 lane. The views... More

(Bob Dylan) 61 is a great drive. Take your time, stop often, and enjoy the scene. The drive from Lake City south is beautiful in any season.

US 61 from the Twin cities south basically runs along the Mississippi River and the CP railway that includes the route Amtrak uses. You will see the Bluffs, farms, river, trains along with cities from very small to over 100,000 all with many tips of recreational facilities mainly related to the river.

If you want to see what a beautiful creation we have, take hwy 61 from Wabasha, MN to Lacrosse, Wi. You will see 400 ft. bluffs, the Mississippi, eagles and lots of other wildlife. The road is an easy 4-lane and follows the Mississippi R. all the way. Stop in the little towns and enjoy true Midwestern hospitality and goo... More

We were staying in Winona and took a drive on Highway 61. It is impressive for the views. We were there for the spectacular fall colors and the whole route that we drove was beautiful, as it does go along the river and the bluffs.

Highway 61 from Redwing, MN to Prairie Du Chien, WI. Is amazing. Drive both of the MN and WI sides if you get a chance - for the amazing river views and small towns, including La Crescent, MN; Alma, WI; and Prairie Du Chien, WI. Views of the barges on the river, roadside art, and small pubs to eat in... More

It gives away my age when I say that my first introduction to Highway 61 as anything but a line on a map was Bob Dylan's great album "Highway 61 Revisited"... released in 1965 and a soundtrack for much of my high school career. Dylan was not the first inspired by this road. It runs 1500 miles - from the... More

From Hastings to Winona, this was a blessing of a scenic drive through the MN river valley. Stages include river bluff views, small town stops, farmland scenery, flood plain flats, up and downhill climbs. Whether in a car or on a motorcycle, this is one scenic trip anyone who enjoys a great ride should take.
