So peaceful and serene. Loads of beautiful birds, you can take some of the many walking trails, take a picnic lunch and a blanket like we did. They do offer picnic tables and grills. My friends rode bikes all over. Don't miss the overlook. If you are lucky you might spot and even hear an alligator roar. You will never... More

We love visiting Noxubee! Short hikes are lovely, monthly canoe days are fun! Staff is very friendly and helpful. Little visitor's center is great.

A peaceful and beautiful place to watch herons and other birds. It was lovely to walk on the boardwalks to the cypress swamp, to watch woodpeckers, and look for gators...didn't see any. But did see a little snake off to the side of a boardwalk. Nice visitor center too...friendly, welcoming staff.

Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge encompasses nearly 50,000 acres of wetlands, as well as bottomland and upland forest, and is only about a 20-30 minute drive south of Starkville. The refuge is home alligators, a wide variety of smaller reptiles and amphibians, and numerous resident and migratory birds, including eagles, wood storks, herons, egrets, and brightly colored songbirds, such as the... The Refuge is a peaceful place to get away from the hustle and bustle. While there, you can often see lots of wildlife such as alligators, egrets, heron, ibis, cormorants, anhingas, bald eagles and their nest, woodpeckers... During the summer, each 3rd Saturday is canoe day sponsored by the Friends of the Refuge and is a chance to get up... More

We have visited the refuge 3 times. This past visit we were delighted to view the nesting bald eagles. We also spotted a fox and 3 alligators. The park staff is so helpful and the trails are lovely. If you are in Starkville, make a point to hike Noxubee.

Can't believe all the wildlife I saw including deer, turkey, bald eagles, ducks of all sorts, a bobcat and I'm told golden are using the area this time year too.

Very few places exist where you can get away from it all and commune with nature. The Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge is one such place. Every third Saturday from April to October, they offer free canoeing and kayaking. Don't worry the gators are quite shy. Enjoy the tranquility of the lake and the numerous birds that flock to the Refuge... More

Multiple boardwalks showcase the waters, gators and estuary. Lots to enjoy especially if one is into photography. Wander along the woodpecker trail to see nests and possibly some birds. Trails are well marked, easy hikes and often look back.
