Fremantle is a port city and it is natural that this magnificent memorial commemorates the men who went to sea and never returned. The main memorial is a large buff-coloured obelisk, surrounded by gardens and lawn. Smaller memorials pay tribute to the sailors of the Royal Austrakian Navy and the seamen of the Merchant Marine, who are often overlooked. The memorial has an impressive view out across the port of Fremantle and Gage Roads.

A credit to all involved, so well put together. I highly recommend visiting this museum. We took our six year old along and the displays were visual enough for him to follow also.

A visit to this site has always been overlooked during our visits to Fremantle, but on this occasion the visit took precedence. The area is an eleven acre public reserve with manicured lawns and rose beds, all so well maintained that the visitor can sense a great pride in the monument and its surrounds. It dates to 1928 and consists of a large central obelisk surrounded by smaller memorials commemorating the Merchant Mariners, Netherlands Ex-Servicemen's Association, RAN Corvettes, the RAN in Vietnam, Royal Marines, Royal Navy and US submariners memorial.
Tributes both to the bravery of men and women and the cost of conflict. Lest We Forget.

Commanding a magnificent view over Fremantle and Gage Roads this solemn place is not only historic but it pays tribute to all who sacrificed their all for the freedoms we enjoy here in Western Australia. Well worth a visit just for the view alone but take time to read and explore this Monument to those who served this great country.

It's hard to miss this monument, sort of near the port and beaches. The Great War is very much on the minds of the Aussies and memorials such as this are very important to keep the memory alive.

After visiting Fremantle Prison I walked up to the not very high Memorial Hill, which offers some of the best, although not really spectacular round views of Fremantle and surroundings. At its centre is the War Memorial, consisting of a quite large obelisk and unveiled in 1928 to commemorate the ANZAC soldiers, who fell during WWI. All around though are several smaller memorials, related to other conflicts from WWII to wars in Korea and Vietnam.
There is also a torpedo exhibited and besides several memorials to the Australian Navy, there are plaques commemorating US submariners during WWII and members of the Dutch Navy, who had to leave their territories in Indonesia. From the Monument Hill it was a nice walk down High Street, past Kings Square, back to the town centre.

War memorial located in a privileged hill overlooking the port. Construction is magnificent and it is calm stroll that makes for remembrance and tribute for those who fought for the country.

With fantastic views over Fremantle and the sea, this memorial is very well maintained, and is a splendid monument to the Fallen.
