This is an extraordinary museum housed in what was the USO sit for Black soldiers stationed at Camp Shelby. Fantastic artifacts and and the story well told. An important site.

This place was a great little gem to find. The staff were sweet and kind and I loved having the introductory speech on how the museum came to be. The museum isv well laid out and very thoughtfully informative. I liked that you could listen to different people about their military involvement and there was a movie too which was well done. Totally recommend coming here.

I’m so glad this historic USO facility was saved and has been made into this wonderful museum, shining a light on the contributions of African Americans in every American conflict from the American Revolution through the War on Terror. Be sure to watch the movie at the end and be encouraged as to the treatment of African Americans in the military has vastly improved over the centuries and decades.

What a hidden gem & well worth a stop! Vanessa made us feel right at home & gave a great introduction and history of the area to us, along with future plans! Our 3 year old liked the interactive portions of the museum, we would come back again! Plus there is no fee to the museum

Don’t miss this little gem if you are a military history buff. Staff said they are adding outside vehicles later this year. The movie is great.

Yes, there is no charge to tour the museum. Also, you can have a museum staff member take your family on the tour and give you greater details of the exhibits.

This place is amazing! So much history in one building! This really is a gem in Downtown Hattiesburg. A lot of planning and organization (and funding!) went into creating these amazing exhibits that tell the full story of the contributions made by African Americans in military history. And by so many Hattiesburg natives who did some amazing things. You can easily spend a few hours here reading all the information and watching the videos, and everything is so well done.

Although the museum is small, it has a lot of information. I took a small group of girls to visit, we were able to learn about women who served in the military such as Charity Adams the first African American in the Woman's Army Corps. They learned about the Buffalo Soldiers and about the Red Ball Express just to mention a little of what the museum has to offer. The museum is interactive and you can use your cell phone to listen to the information. There is a nice memorial garden behind the museum. This museum is worth the visit.
