We were planning on staying in Pearl, MI and so looked up my trusty TripAdvisor Site and saw that Eudora Welty home was in Jackson. I called and booked a 9 AM tour for the next morning. Be aware that Visitor's Center opens at 8:30 and, therefore, we could get a head start on our visit. One of the docent's... More

Hidden in a tree-filled neighborhood, Eudora Welty's home across from Belhaven University is a joy for any bibliophile. I enjoy seeing how writers & fellow booklovers live & this home is a peek into Miss Welty's world. And the gardens, though not at peak bloom, were nostalgic for me...loads of oxalis reminding me of my grandmother's yard. The house is... More

Amazing tour with an excellent docent, Steve. He was very accommodating and knowledgeable about the home and gardens and fascinating life of Eudora Welty. I highly recommend this tour if you are in Jackson!

If you love Ms. Welty's work a visit to her home is a must. Very well preserved and the gardens are lovely in the spring and summer.

I was here in the spring but wasn't able to take a tour of the house, but the timing worked out better this time and I was able to take a tour of the house. They start the tour with a video in the house next door-I'd seen the video on my previous visit, but picked up on more information... More

We were staying in Jackson and had some time in the afternoon, so we picked Ms. Welty's home. Not enormous fans, but I liked several of her books, and my mother was a very big fan. Turns out that the tours are on a timetable, and calling ahead is highly recommended. But the person in the office offered to let... More

I happened here when they were having an event and got to tour the home and gardens. I didn't know who Eudora Welty was until I got here! Well known author who lived in this home most of her adult life. The home is lovingly restored in the condition she would have had it. Fun to see here collection and... More

One of the things that hits you when you walk in is how perfectly this home and I mean home, has been preserved, yes it is a museum, yes it holds Eudora Welty's possessions and life blood, but it has been left 'as if she has just popped out to the shops' and because it has been left like that... If you have been to author Ernest Hemingway's house in Key West, Florida, you'll enjoy a visit to author Eudora Welty's house in Jackson, Mississippi. I'm not into fiction but my wife has read several of Ms. Welty's books, including her 1973 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Optimist's Daughter. But I certainly was interested in learning how a writer of her... More

Originally visited in March of 2011. Happened to see road side signs off the interstate while driving through Jackson, MS, and decided to make time to visit. I had read Ms Welty's short story collection of stories in The Golden Apples in school and even though I didn't remember the specific stories any more, her writing had made a positive... More
