Travel through history on The Mother Road at Route 66 State Park. Route 66 captured Americans’ imagination and exposed millions of citizens to small towns and different cultures across the country. Sample a slice of that at Route 66 State Park’s visitor center, which has displays showcasing the road. The visitor center is the former Bridgehead Inn, a 1935 roadhouse that sat on the original Route 66. The park’s location, close to metro St. Louis provides visitors with a quick getaway to nature. More than 40 types of birds have been identified in the park and picnic sites are sprinkled throughout the park.

The site is of the former Times Beach, a community destroyed by Dioxin, after it was sprayed on streets and driveways to keep down dust. A huge incinerator was built there to burn all the tainted soil from the region, and it burned non-stop for...More

We were looking for Route 66 Tshirts downtown but too expensive. Visited this State Park and found LOTS of Route66 T shirts, denim jackets, bumper stickers, iron on patches and MUCH more at very reasonable prices. The museum had information that the Missouri History Museum...More

There is a visitor center with knowledgeable guys (park rangers?) who know the history of the area really well--the shocking and sad history of Times Beach, mainly. There is a museum and very extensive gift shop with Route 66 memorabilia. It's a fun little stop...More

I'm formally from this area and am ashamed to admit that I had never stopped here before. Now I'm asking myself, "what was I waiting for?". The museum was very informative and highly nostalgic. For anyone interested in Route 66 this is a must stop.

This review is for the Route 66 museum located inside the park office. Although the weather was pleasant, this stop was purely for finding facts about historic Route 66 and what a pleasant surprise! Don't be fooled by the average looks of the park office...More
