I am not religious at all, but this place was breathtaking. I took a guided tour with Julia, who gave me a lot of historical and spiritual backgrounds. The monastery is huge, unfortunately also crowded with asian tourists, which obviously dont know what respect is, especially at such spiritual places :-( Luckily I looked Russian enough that I was allowed... Positives 1. Free entrance to the Lavra complex and temples inside. 2. Spectacular frescoes and icons within iconostases inside in excelent condition. Negatives 1. Poor navigation inside. The only one complex's scheme is found at Lavra's entrance. 2. Absence of any information boards outdoors and indoors inside of Lavra. Neither in Russian, English or any other language. No names for... More

About 80 km from Moscow , the 13th century in all its glory is well worth a visit if you like your churches, frescoes and icons. A lot of devout church goers are there which gives it a very spiritual presence. Compared to Jerusalem, the items on sale were of good quality and you can purchase near and bread made... More

80 minutes drive from center of Moscow. As our time schedule was tough we were there by private tour. However, if you have enough time you can to there by yourself by train or by bus from Moscow and it took 80 minutes. peaceful Small town on the UNESCO world heritage site was formed by the monastery is very quite... Very entertaining place with cafes, shops, and massive churches. A perfect place for a tourist interested in Religion. I recommend knowing/speaking some Russian to not get scammed or ripped-off. I also recommend buying the "church kvass".

I visited Sergiev Posad last weekend, what a great small city. This monastery and series of churches are lovely to wander around. Expect to spend 1-2 hours doing that. There are a few small stalls selling bread and pastries which you should try. Even on a Monday it was quite busy, so if you go over a weekend maybe arrive... More

I have visited a lot of churches and monasteries but this may be the best. It is alive with priests and monks plus lots and lots of ordinary Russians professing their faith. The are several churches, Trinity Cathedral, and Assumption Cathedral are the best but so much to see. Do not miss the healing spring where Russians come to gather... More

The trip to visit the Trinity monastery was one of the best experience. Train leaded to a small town that locate in small valley. Monastery was full of interesting building with stunning view and orthodox Christianity atmosphere.

Sergiev Posad is a little more than an hour away from Moscow. We were driven to Sergiev Posad by our tour guide so am not familiar with Train/Metro routes. Sergiev Posad, as we understood, is the Vatican equivalent for Orthodox Christianity. It is the seat of Orthodox Christianity. The use of gold, frescos, colour of the domes, the spirituality inside... More
