About
Mercado del Pueblo is the only Farmer's Market in Nayarit and the first in the Bahia de Banderas. We feature local, organic and natural consumable goods from the region. Recently, local artisans were also added. Every Friday, during the growing season from November-April,come enjoy the products of the area from vegetables and fruits to medicinal products and prepared artisan foods and handmade jewelry. Live music every Friday and street performers make it fun for all! All proceeds from the market go directly to support local projects like water and river clean up, providing biodegradable and natural cleaning supplies to the town and supporting our local children's parks and schools.

I decided to come before things get really crazy here in Sayulita during high season. The market happily has an entrance to ensure all attendees are wearing masks and temperatures are taken and a separate exit. All of the vendors were wearing masks and I felt very comfortable. Unfortunately that didn’t translate out to the streets.

We stocked up our kitchen at this market! So many great vendors and items, arrive hungry and dive right in.
The vendor from PV selling many variations of hummus and artisan breads. Fantastic.

My wife and I attended 2 Friday markets in February. It is said to be the only farmers' market in Nayarit and as such, you must admire the number of farmers who are also bakers, coffee growers, jewllers, t-shirt artists, fund raisers, cheese makers, jam makers, hammock makers, herbalists, barristas, restauranteurs and musicians. My wife found some interesting jewellry, I bought fresh strawberries, coffee and raspberries. We are planning on going back for a small purse and water bottle holder. The local musician were unique to me and were very nice.

The market was small and about 5 or 10 blocks of more Porta Vallarta style. Crowds at Christmas vacation made traffic and beach a mass mob. The sewers appeared to empty onto the streams and onto the beach where surfing was top grade. Ubiquitous beach vendors were thick and polite. Giant pina colladas were huge and great. A half day here and then we were informed of smaller beach villages 10 and 20 minutes North for real Mexican cultures.

We took a day trip to Sayulita while staying in Puerto Vallarta. It took us approximately 1 hour to get there as we rented a car. The drive from PV is easy as there's a lot to see.
When you enter the town it's like stepping into "old world" Mexico. There are a lot of small bars, shops, and restaurants. The beach is beautiful... a bit crowded for our taste. So, you want to get there early if laying out is your thing.
We stopped at a small mom/pop restaurant that's known for its fish tacos (Marlin). My husband said that they were the best he'd ever had. I had shrimp tacos which were great. The price and service were great.
Sorry I don't have the name of the restaurant (directly in front of the beach). The town is small and the locals can point you in the right direction. I paid in pesos (no credit cards).
Enjoy!

I was eager to visit Sayulita's Farmers Market to see how it differed with other markets. Besides the many Mexican arts/crafts, and food from the locals, there were many Canadians selling their own arts/crafts, and home cooking. Their jewelry were especially high quality, and some reasonably priced. It was interesting to see both cultures working together.

We visited Sayulita from Bucerías for the day and this time we came on a Friday to see the market. Nice little market selling a variety of Mexican items, homemade soaps, cheeses, breads, dips and fresh coffee. Quite a small market but nice to have a look around before walking into Sayulita as the markets is located at the start of the village near the bus station.
If you’re looking for an authentic homemade Mexican gift to take home then I’m sure you’d find it here.

I am in the minority group who did not find the Friday "Organic Market" or Gringo market that impressive. It is quite small and seems to be mostly ex-pats selling their wares. There is a bit of organic produce, baking, fresh pasta and fruit, plus some gluten free items. There are some crafts and clothing, coffee and some tasty ready-made foods you can eat at a small eating area. Maybe I was disappointed because I was expecting a big, traditional fresh fruit and vegetable plus souvenir market?

Thanks for visiting. Actually, 90% of our vendors are Mexican. We have 75 vendors in all and mostly cater to locals who buy their weekly groceries here. Most of our vendors are from local farms or make artisan foods or medicines. We only have about 20 vendors with crafts-
again, because we really cater to our local community not tourists. The large, campos Latin American markets are wonderful but do not really exist in the area. You can find them in DF and in countries south of Mexico. My favorite is Equador!

Do you have passion fruit/ granidillas in January?
Written 20 December 2019
Yes, usually we do but it does depend on the farmers! Lots of local fruits and vegetables but all our farmer's are small and local and products can run out quickly and change week to week!

Is the farmer's market/flea market operating in August? We are staying in Puerto Vallarta this week and plan to visit Sayulita this Friday.
Written 17 August 2017
Our season is Nov-April, as we follow the farmers! With the heat and humidity in the summer, it is hard to grow anything. Hope to see you another time
