Really pretty capitol building. We just wandered around by ourselves and didn't take a tour because of time. The museum was interesting (though they'd taken down a lot of Civil War stuff to make room for new stuff on WW1 coming soon). The Missouri State Capitol has a free tour that is a must for first time visitors. They will take you into areas that you would otherwise miss. The Museum has historical dioramas that take you through Missouri History. While you are there you can stop in and visit your Representative or Senator during the legislative session.

If you haven't ever been to the state capitol building, do yourself a favor and go. Join a tour (they're free) in order to get the most out of your visit. Plan on staying after the tour (lasts about an hour) to look at all of the beautiful artwork found throughout the building. Really beautiful.

A short side trip from Columbia, well worth the visit. Great architecture and attention to detail. Sprawling grounds are full of water fountains. Great views of the Missouri River at the back.

I visited before with family. Thus time we went with our scout troop on our way to camp. The building is gorgeous. The museum is educational.
