This was extremely interesting. A lot of history and great stories by the guides who are actual guards that used to work there. Ours was actually the warder at the penitentiary for several years. Would love to go again.

This tour exceeded expectations. We had planned on doing this for some time and finally booked our tour online. Amazingly enough, our tour guide was a former warden of the prison. Not only did he have a knowledge of the history of the prison, but...More

A group of us went for the ghost tour. We thought it would be hokey and weren't expecting the experience we had. I'm not going to give away all of the details. Our tour guide had actually been a Corrections Officer at the prison for...More

This is a very interesting tour. Our tour guide was a former guard and he added a lot of personal experiences. This tour was very emotional. The dungeon cells and the gas chamber were a step into the lives of hardened criminals. I would recommend...More

Fun place to visit when you come to the capitol. It has a scary past and is worth the visit. Bring a camera.

Interesting stories from tour guide! Fascinating to see how that place was run; made kids realize the laws are there for a reason and showed them what life is like if you break the laws.

For a bit of history - walk the halls of the Missouri State Pen - hear about the inmates and the riots. The architecture alone is worth a visit. Guided Day and night tours plus the special ghost tour.

There is seating available in the first two housing units you visit as well as outside between the two housing units. There is no seating in the third housing unit or the gas chamber.

Seated at first. Seats in the old prison, your choice to look around, or remain seated after the guide's talk. Also noticed some outside benches, that could be used to for a rest stop.
