Our family thoroughly enjoyed our day trip to Johnson Shut Ins. It's beautiful and unique. Our kiddos, ages 10, 11 and 14 had a blast traversing the water and rock formations. We are planning to camp and the state park in July.

We've visited in the summer and in the winter, and this place is an amazing natural wonder! In the summer, bring shoes that can get wet (water shoes or something with grip - not flip flops) and climb around in the shut-ins to cool down....More

I love to hike the trails and Johnson's Shut-Ins. I have not visited in the summer, as I enjoy the peace and tranquility of the winter months when there are not many other visitors. The hiking trails have many beautiful views.

Really nice Missouri State Park...can spend a few hours or you could spend the whole day. Probably would want to coordinate this park with the Elephant Rocks State Park.

Planning a weekend camping trip to Johnson's shut-ins.. we are an active group and reserved our spot at the walk-in campsites. What things should we absolutely make sure we do/see? How is it for light pollution -- best place to go to see the sky? And if coming from Des Moines, IA - best place to use as a last stop for firewood/food etc? Thank you!
