The Norfolk Island Museum reveals to you Norfolk's amazing and multi-layered stories. Famous for its colourful history, the island was first settled by Polynesians, then in 1788 by the British who later made it a convict hellhole. Since 1856 it has been home to the descendants of the Bounty mutineers. Located in a number of heritage buildings in Kingston, our museums and research centre help you explore our turbulent past as well as today's living culture.

interesting to walk into the house and view the facilities here. such a shame original furniture had been taken in years gone by. take the time to imagine how hard it would have been to build this house and the others houses on quality row,...More

This is really worth a look as it provides a great insight into how people once lived on the Island, plus it has a great feel to it

Interesting, but needs more structure with a focus on the significant events. More on the Maori first settlement would be of interest and a focus on the 1st and 2nd penal settlements.

I was transported back in time with the explanations given as to how it was all those years ago. The tour drivers make sure that it is interesting and have their own spins on life at this time.

Good collection of artifacts, well explained. The ceramic collection is fascinating. If you have time - or can come back more than once - watch the TV programs made about Norfolk Island's history. The presenter is a bit annoying but the program is very interesting...More

This house will give a good idea of what it was like for an Officer in the time of the penal settlements - particularly when you find out the number of children that lived in some of the houses. They must have been so cramped....More
