The Norfolk Island Museum reveals to you Norfolk's amazing and multi-layered stories. Famous for its colourful history, the island was first settled by Polynesians, then in 1788 by the British who later made it a convict hellhole. Since 1856 it has been home to the descendants of the Bounty mutineers. Located in a number of heritage buildings in Kingston, our museums and research centre help you explore our turbulent past as well as today's living culture.

Truely amazing to walk back in time and get a snapshot of what it was like. Guide was helpful and painted a colourful picture, providing details that we now would find hard to comprehend. Life was very good for some and horrid for many others.

Be sure to get the pass for 4 museums. Our tour guide, Lea, was very entertaining and is descended from the original settlers.

There is so much to do in Norfolk and most visitors only stay one week, but the Museum should really be near the top of the list. As well as the convict history, the Museums tell the story of other aspects of Norfolk's history -...More

Nice to have a look into the houses to see how they might have looked back when they were lived in. Interesting to see the porcelain pieces that were found in the area.

No wonder the Pitcairn Islanders thought all their Christmasses had come at once when they landed on Norfolk Island. These houses are quite modern in design by today's standards and extremely well built. Once again the history is interesting.
