The Lewis and Clark Expedition headed west in 1804 and encountered a lake that William Clark described as “full of Geese & Goslings.” Today, that lake is Lewis and Clark Lake, which is bordered by Lewis and Clark State Park. The park’s broad open spaces and easy water access make it a favorite for families who take advantage of the boat ramp and swimming beach. Bird watchers come to Lewis and Clark to watch geese, great blue herons and snowy egrets flock to the oxbow lake.

Decent camp site

My husband and I wanted to find a relatively close (to Kansas City, MO) camp ground on an unusually warm weekend recently. We checked the Missouri State Park website and found... read more

We stayed her because the Weston park was full. It's about 12 miles from Weston and just a little further from Parkville. There were several 50 amp sites that were level and pull through with shade. It was nice. Not much to do but our son did enjoy riding his bike and there was lots of good flat paved roads... More

My husband and I wanted to find a relatively close (to Kansas City, MO) camp ground on an unusually warm weekend recently. We checked the Missouri State Park website and found Lewis & Clark State Park. When we arrived we headed to the ranger station. The ranger there was friendly and knowledgeable and quite passionate. He warned us it might... More

They could have more things to do! Most lakes you go visit have water rafting or jet skis this didn't have any rental places to do anything on the water.

Area is pretty tired and overgrown. Not much usable access to the waterfront. Ample parking and restrooms and a "historic" shelter house I remember eating under as a kid. I should have left my memories untainted.

We are new to the camping experience and decided that Lewis and Clark would be a nice place to get our feet wet. It's only an hour drive from Kansas City which was a plus. The experience was pleasant but the campground backs up to a residential neighborhood so we didn't get that "out in the woods" feeling, more like... More

Off the beaten path, this hidden gem includes camp sites with 30 amp electric hookups and water to fill trailer tanks. Clean restrooms have showers and a laundry; the park has walking trails and playground equipment. The bonus is that it isn't crowded even on holiday weekends. Great place to meet friends and family around the campfire.

I didn't know what to expect and I didn't find much. The park does offer camping and picnicking and access to the Missouri River, and big bird flocks during migration season. Check mostateparks.com to see if it will appeal to you.
