What a great way to spend a few hours! This museum exceeded all of my expectations. It contained a wide variety of all types of art. I was highly impressed. In addition, you get to see the old house, and the basement too. Do not even hesitate thinking whether or not you should come here. Jump in your car and... More

BUT, let start out by saying that I actually enjoyed visiting this museum. The Kempers and their foundation have done a terrific job of gathering collections to exhibit. The artwork runs the gamut from traditional oil on canvas to some of the newest techniques. Don't forget to go downstairs to see the library and private saloon! An added benefit was... More

Always an enjoyable outing that exhibits a fine permanent collection plus rotating exhibits of great interest. Our group this time fortunate to have new impressive curator give us the history of the original house and the museum's history. Lunch in pretty setting available certain days.

We’ve been to quite a few art museums in this country and others, and too often, we feel overwhelemed by the sheer volume of visual stimulation. This is a good sized-museum. It’s a very nice place, relatively small, the art is well-displayed and well-lighted, and it’s never very busy. I especially like the room in the museum’s northwest corner highlighting... More

Every now and then you come across a small museum at which you find yourself saying with delight: "Where has THIS place been hiding." You might find this to be one of them. The small but well-chosen collection is nicely and intimately displayed and provides a representative survey of paintings by significant American painters from the 18th to 20th centuries.... More

The Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art in St. Joseph specializes in American Art - it's permanent collection is quite impressive for a small museum. It also has two gallery spaces that are used for temporary exhibits. Its well worth a visit.

Sometimes you just have to stop and read the small sign that says: Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art. Originally, this magnificent building was home to Mr. Albrecht who owned Western Tablet Company--home of the Big Chief tablet and so much more. Now the Mead Corporation.Later, it was converted into a gallery. The grounds alone are beautiful. Weddings and picture ops are... More

At first you think it's someone's stately home, which it was, years ago. Then once around the back in the parking lot the entrance is visible. Beautiful pieces are on display both historic & contemporary, including students of Thomas Hart Benton.
