Don't take the name so literally. We're about fun. Not your white walls, walk around, and be quiet museum. If you want to climb around, get active with your kids or are a big kid at heart, we're the place. If you get freaked out easily, you might not want to come. We're four floors filled with miles of tunnels, a full cave system, over 30 slides, a circus, an arts area, a large outdoor climbing space, Architectural Museum, a Cabin that serves adult beverages, a Museum of Mayhem, Mirth and Mystery, and a ton more. Also, there's the roof with a Ferris Wheel and a bus hanging off its edge.

Be sure to wear closed toe shoes. Be prepared to walk a lot, going up and down stairs. Do wear jeans, I know it's more comfortable with shorts, there are multiple slides and tunnels. You don't want to get a little burn or stuck going...More

I had no clue what to expect going into the City Museum. I had heard plenty about it, but nothing prepared me for what I found. I took my 8-year-old son there on a father-son weekend. We got there as the museum opened at 9...More

A GREAT place bring kids! Lots of places to crawl and climb - there are numerous " caves " where kids can explore. It's not place for adults to enter certain " caves " as it's small and tight to crawl - I recommend this...More

Lots of fun! Our kids were a bit young and timid for some of it, but we all had a good time. Staff was friendly and helpful, and the food was good and reasonably priced. Only downside was parking...we got waved into a parking garage...More

We were in St. Louis recently and visited the city museum. We took other travelers advice and visited on a Friday evening. If the roof is open make sure to go up and ride the Ferris Wheel. On a windy evening it was a lot...More

Very nice for children. Our 5 year old really enjoyed spending a few hours here. I did think it would have been nice had some of the crawl spaces been a bit larger for adults. It was very tight it some spots. Overall, very nice...More

This is a great place to visit. There is a cave type environment but you need to be physically fit to really enjoy it. Also, more climbing activities and slides on the roof. Worth doing if you are active.

This place is certainly one the best man-made attraction for kids and adults in the entire US. With manageable crowds, good and reasonable food offerings, and lots of differing activities, no age has an excuse to be idle. Truly both a functional, active play emporium...More

Loud, hot, kids running everywhere and in all directions. Not even sure if they are concerned with fire safety as there is no effort to keep track of the number of people admitted. Literally a free for all...and it terrifies me to think how an...More

Is this appropriate for a very active 3 year old or should we wait a couple of years and try the children's museum instead?

If you are active and can keep up with them climbing and in small spaces it would be fine. However, it may cause some anxiety in many parents. They will get more out of it at a little older age.

I read a review that stated there were a lot of obstacles that adults could not fit in and they lost their small child for a while due to this.....is this still an issue? Nervous mommy of a 4 year old!

There are allot of obsticles for kids. Some are tight however my 12year old did all of them as well as my 11year old and 6 year old. I did have to keep a close eye on were they traveled to.
