Description:

The Missouri Civil War Museum is housed in the old 1905 Jefferson Barracks...

The Missouri Civil War Museum is housed in the old 1905 Jefferson Barracks Post Exchange (PX) and Gymnasium building, formerly part of the Jefferson Barracks military post, which is still an active military installation to this day.

Renovations began in 2003, and were completed 10 years later in 2013, with an opening date of June 29, 2013. During the Civil War, the property which this museum is located upon, contained various hospital ward buildings, where suffering and death occurred, thus making this sacred ground, and a most appropriate location for a Missouri Civil War Museum, honoring our soldiers of the past and present.

One of the best things we did in Saint Louis

A little out of the way, but worth it. Lots of information, lots artifacts for the size of the museum. Lots of informative videos. One of the highlights of our trip.

My husband and I visited on our anniversary weekend, we loved it! The displays are all labeled well and very informative. We were enthralled by the amount of items they had on display. The videos gave us alot of information about that era and exactly that went on for troops on both sides of the skirmishes. I recommend this museum... More

This new renovated building is in the process of growing every year. It holds many artifacts from the Civil War, in St. Louis. Jefferson Barracks was home to a union battalion/barracks. There is a lot of history here. Nearby is the National Cemetery where many soldiers are laid to rest from the civil war, Spanish American war, WWI, WWII, Korean... More

My family just went to Jefferson Barracks, and had a great time. It was very much worth the price by far we paid only $12. All of my family are history buffs and we would recommend the Museum very much. It is a great museum even if it is off the beaten path. In the building's restoration no federal or... More

First visit this past January. I am pretty knowledgeable about the CW and have visited every major battlefield. Frankly was surprised by the quantity and quality of artifacts and the displays. Well worth a visit to this Missouri treasure.

Be sure to check out this fantastic glimpse into Missouri's involvement in the Civil War! Topping it off is the history of the Museum - funded completely by private donations, in a 'recycled' building on the Jefferson Barracks grounds!

This is a great little museum! I enjoyed the video about the history of the building and Jefferson Barracks. They have many old guns, lots of Civil War memorabilia AND a regiment flag. My partner and I really enjoyed our visit and will be back.

I did not know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised by the variety and depth of the exhibits here. There are plenty of artifacts to see, with extensive explanations for those (like me) who appreciate them. There is a clear purpose to present a picture of Missouri's involvement in the events preceding, during and immediately after the Civil War,... More

Being from St. Louis I have always enjoyed visiting this museum. Located at Jefferson Barracks, a military cemetery with thousands of grave sites, a place that trained and processed thousands of soldiers during WWII, overlooking the mighty Mississippi river, the museum has memorabilia that goes back into time. If you are a military or Civil war buff, this is a... More
