A private tour led by a library docent is a fascinating peek into St. Louis' history and an enlightening view of the $70 million renovation that the library underwent several years ago. The St. Louis Central Public Library looks like a magnificent art museum. Each wing has a different style of beautiful hand-painted ceiling. The rooms on each side of... More

You will love this place even if you don't like libraries. Its the best in the country. I wished I had a library like this when I was kid. I would lot smarter.

The library is a wonderful building, which you can enjoy on an historical level or just as a library. The architecture is extraordinary and they have a pictorial display about the building of it. There was a special display on Blues Hockey history which was very nicely done. You can definitely spend the day here and lose all track of... More

After an extensive renovation, the downtown Central Library is both beautiful and now functioning in the 21st century. Certainly worth a walk through for visitors. The rare book dept. is an oasis of quiet and treasures.

I live near Central Library and I am very impressed with the remodel and renovations that restored the facades and inside architectural details of the library and then added modern services and meeting spaces on the Locust Street side. A real class act and the Library deserves kudos to improve the experience, and keep the historic gem this library is.... More

We visited while in town and got a map from the information desk. The nice gentleman there told us all about the library and how everyone that worked there was so proud of it. We wandered through and it was a beautiful space. It is a working library so being a tourist there is a little strange but no one... More

I always visit libraries when I travel. It's typically quiet and beautiful, a good opportunity to take a break, charge up some electronics, do some work or research, watch other people, etc. This library was all of the above. I would recommend the free tour.

This is one of my favorite places to go in the city. The architecture both inside and out still amazes me every time I see it. It's well worth a stop to see. They do have an elevator inside for people who need one. You can, of course, also find a book to read as well as DVDs, Blu-rays, and... More
