Travel back to Missouri’s early French roots at Felix Vallé House State Historic Site. The American-Federal style Valle house was built in 1818 and today is furnished in the style of the 1830s with a host of artifacts that show the American influence on the French community of Ste. Genevieve after the Louisiana Purchase. The Bauvais-Amoureux House, built in 1792, is one of several other historic homes in the site, nestled within historic Ste. Genevieve.

Depending on when you tour, your group may be the only part of the tour. This allows for a more intimate tour and your questions will get answered. This home does not have air conditioning so if you plan to tour during the summer months it will be hot. Also there is a steep staircase making it difficult for anyone... More

Did a tour of this home it wa quite interesting to learn about the French influence in the town of St.Genevieve. Our tour guide knew what he was talking about, which makes it for a great tour. We arrived a bit late, but he took the time to show us everything, without rushing and explain the history of the location... More

The buildings and grounds seem very well restored back to its early 1800's period. The tour giver was dressed in period gave an excellent explanation of their way of life. She was extremely knowledgable and personable. It was well worth the price and time!

it was the home of a rather well-to-do family that was interesting in that it was period but compared w/ the architecture of the other places this was almost run-of-the mill. The story of the family was almost better than the house. It is part of the Ste Gem pass so if you are in the city by all means... More

Our tour guide offered a detailed and informative tour of this elegant home, highlighting the trappings of wealth for the times--much different from our own ideas of luxury. The restored store section is filled with appropriate trade goods, some authentic items and some good approximations. The gardens are maintained to reflect what might have been grown when the house and... More

Great example of merchant's shop and living quarters. Important to the history of Ste. Genevieve. Tour does not take too long and the guide is very friendly and knows what he is talking about. This site is run by the State of Missouri and they have done a fine job in restoration of this property. If you are visiting Ste.... More

I have to start by saying I'm probably biased as I am a descendant of Felix Valle but I did find the tour very interesting. The guide (Tyler or Taylor?) was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We got a good glimpse of how people lived in French Colonial times. If you plan to see a lot of the historic houses in town,... More

I love the Felix Valle house. It's beautifully maintained, with excellent guided tours. The Valles are easily the most prominent family in the history of the region, so it's fascinating to see what life was actually like for them. The gift shop is an excellent place to get books pertaining to the history of the area.
