We visited Crazy Mountain Museum when we were camping nearby. The museum has several rooms of historical decor and artifacts that show the life of the pioneers that settled the town of Big Timber. Many were from Norway and the history is rich with stories of the families that lived there. Many of the locals are descendants of the original pioneers. I found it interesting to walk around and look at all the families that were listed alphabetical and had pictures as special memories shown. In the middle of the room were big posterboard type room dividers that listed newspaper articles, ads and pictures from the variety of businesses they had over the years each categorized by type of business. Rodeo and ranchers were featured in another room. Schools and hobbies. Fascinating! My husband and I enjoyed talking with the volunteer curator who was a local and retired teacher. She was a wealth of information! I highly recommend stopping in and let the museum tell you about the people who lived there.

What a gem! Fantastic museum with wonderful docents. There are areas to explore outside and there's plenty of space to distance if that's what you need. There's truly something for everyone and I just can't say enough about the kindness and welcoming nature of the volunteer staff. We visited with four children ages 4-9 and while we kept an eye on them, we never felt the evil museum eye. The museum is laid out well where you can get great views of the collections and experience the history of the area. Well done!

The museum is full of history of the Big Timber area. I personally like the information about the schools and also loved the stage coach and car. They also have a few buildings you can go through with a tour guide. Definitely a must see. Fantastic Staff.

This was a wonderful stop! Well worth the time. The staff were very knowledgeable and excited to educate us on the history of Big Timber area The museum has a large glass encased model of the historic town. It had extraordinary detail There was a good number of antiques and western memorabilia donated by locals, including a complete furnished one room school house and cache with Scandinavian art There was a very nice gift shop and no charge for admission. We were even given a book on the history of the area.

Many exhibits, interesting history of the area. Especially liked the 100-year old schoolhouse. Extensive research library of history and surnames.

This was a lovely museum about Big Timber.
This is all about this town.
We could explore as we wanted.
We explored a Teepee, about Clark who came here.
They also named Plenty Coups.
There was a car inside the museum as well.
One of the ladies opened the doors, so that we could see the scholl, awooden house, and an old travel trailer.
We enjoyed this place.
This is worthwhile to see!

When I say lots of pieces they have real pieces: Rifles, pistols, washing machine, a bar (no liquor though), an old Ford, dentist chair, barber pole, saddles, chaps... you get the picture. Stop in and check it all out.

History comes alive at Crazy Mountain Museum. Major settlement of this area was only 100 or so years ago. Many families are direct descendants of those settlers. The museum has a good collection of life 100 years ago in Sweet Grass County.
