We drove along the Gallatin River in Montana and were mesmerized by the blue waters, the green vegetation and the lovely mountain backdrops. We did not leave the car. I cannot recommend hikes, but there would be places to picnic if you planned ahead and had deli sandwiches in a cooler with drinks !

This river offers scenic views, fishing, swimming, etc. Hwy 191 is the best way to see this awesome river. There is several areas to check out the views. Highly recommend.

We have fished the Gallatin many times and it is a favourite. The water is clear and clean and the fish rise to the fly.

This river seems to meander forever but that gives you a lot of opportunities to see some beautiful scenery. There are many places to pull of the road and take pictures or just enjoy the scenery.

The Gallatin River is one of many scenic rivers in Montana and you can take this route to the West Yellowstone Park entrance. Yes, you will see fly fishermen and the light is impressionistic. We followed the river to Hebgen Lake and camped at a state campground, which was in bear country, and I mean Grizzly Bear.

Drove down the road next to the Gallatin River on my way to the West Entrance to Yellowstone. Just beautiful area, and so glad I was able to enjoy it!

The Gallatin River in Montana is what fly fishermen must think about all year ...planning vacations to get here, this place was beautiful. this is where Robert Redford filmed 'a river runs through it' and has a lot of history 120 miles long, one of 3 rivers along with Jefferson and Madison that run through Wyoming and Montana to converge... It's always nice to see a beautiful river, this one now has a lot of people taking others on rafting trips and fishing trips. Or you can do what people used to do, go by yourself.
