Beautiful Trail

We ended up doing this trail because of my poor planning in that I didn’t realise that the trail we intended to do in the Bechler region would still be under water in June!

The trailhead is on the right hand side of the road about 30 miles North of the West entrance to Yellowstone on the way to Gallatin Gateway. There is a small off road parking area.

The trail is well defined and easy to follow. The first 4 miles or so are through meadows filled with wild flowers and sage bush and goes very gently uphill. There a a number of small streams to cross but all have stepping stones and the bigger ones planks to cross over so you don’t get your feet wet. There were a few wet areas of trail that you can walk around.

After 4mikes you start to go uphill more steeply through a forested area and the last mile after the forested area is steeper still and you walk across the ridge at the stop to where it joins the Skyline Rim trail for great views all around.

We didn’t see anyone else in the 5 hours we were doing the trail. In all it was just under 12 miles out and back.
