My experience with BRF was fantastic! I went with my son-in-law who had never fly fished in his life. Our guide, Patrick, and as incredible. Not only had my son-In-law fishing on his own very quickly but put us on the fish. Being from the east I’d never caught a cutthroat and told Patrick I’d really like to. He made no promises because of the snow and cold weather they’d had recently so I left everything up to him. He didn’t disappoint. My first fish was a cutthroat which really pleased me. After that he said “I can take you to a place where we won’t get large volume but the ones we get will be big”. We were all in and again he didn’t disappoint. Got some big trout, lost a few more, but a thrilling experience. Patrick was a fantastic guide and a very enjoyable guy to spend the day with as well. If you’re going to fish the Yellowstone area I couldn’t give anyone a better tip than Patrick and Blue Ribbon Flies.

Did a float trip on the Madison River on 9/7 through this outfitter. We knew the weather was against us. We caught some fish but the hail and snow started by noon. The guide did a great job through horrible conditions. Big surprise was when we paid the bill for the float trip. Got charged for using 11 flies, we did not loose 11 flies. Guide did not give us flies and there was tax on the trip. No other outfitter we have used in Montana has charged tax above quoted rate or charged for flies. Don’t recommend this shop.

Have you ever walked into a fly shop and instantly felt right at home? That’s BRF! The staff is incredibly friendly, welcoming, and unapologetically accepting. Whether you are just starting out, never held a fly rod, or a seasoned angler, they want you to enjoy your time in Yellowstone country. My wife feels comfortable asking questions, which, sadly, is not common in fly shops. Have questions about where to fish? They’ll ask what kind of experience you are looking to have, not just sell you some flies and send you on your way. Have questions about tying? Ask away! Need a guide? They’re the best!

We did a float trip Sept 9 on the Madison with Garrett. He worked hard for us, untangled our tangles and worked hard to put us on the fish. We were pleased with the number of fish caught and had a great day on the river. Garrett is a knowledgeable and personable guide, and we enjoyed his company as well as his expertise. I can highly recommend him and Blue Ribbon Flies!

Terrific team of knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful employees. Excellent selection, well located, and fair prices. Good variation of clothing, too.
