We rented kayaks at Kirkwood Marina for a 1/2 day, what a beautiful day it was!! The lake is beautiful with plenty of area to go around in!! The staff was helpful and they provided life jackets.

Beautiful place to visit !!

Any lake is special, but this one is awesome. We love all the clean water and forestry that surrounds Hebgen Lake. If you are nearby, check it out and get your camera out and take lots of pictures. We are glad we did.

Stay at this lake, not in Yellowstone
Jun 2021
We stayed at Rainbow Point campground which is right next to this lake, specifically the Grayling Arm.

I recommend staying at Hebgen Lake and not in Yellowstone if you require some amenities while touring this region (cell service is good here) and only 15 minutes from West Yellowstone.

We fished this lake and caught so many Utah Chub we got exhausted and had to stop fishing (we were trying to catch rainbows).

The lake was not busy during the week but was busy the weekend. Boats can pull right up to shore and beach for the day. Many families were having BBQ's on the beach. There is a nice boat launch in the Grayling Arm.

The beech has decent quality black sand. The color of the sand is beautiful and unique from what I have seen around the world.

Highly recommend

Rented a pontoon from Kirkwood marina for a whole day. Was a smooth experience at the marina and reserving online. Beautiful lake and plenty of different area to take in amazing views!

Beautiful

Beautiful lake, we rented stand up paddle boards from Kirkwood Marina for two hours and had a great time. The lake is fairly calm and cool. There were some motor boats and kayaks on the water as well.

Beautiful mountain lake
Aug 2020 • Family
This was far less busy than the rest of the area. We camped in the state forest campground but might try the glamping site next door next time.

Far enough out that the noise and traffic was gone. Close enough that you could get anywhere in 10 min.

Beautiful lake with hardly any people on it. It was a great place to kayak and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Beautiful man made lake

Beautiful scenic drive on the way to Quake Lake. We made a big loop from West Yellowstone around the mountains. About 65 miles, but worth the trip.

What a beautiful attractive Lake! Wow!
Jun 2019
When we drove, we stopped our car. We saw the Hebgen Lake in all its splendid.

The mountains had still some snow and there were boats on the lake.

I liked the pine trees as well.

I stood there for at least 2o minutes.

This is a must see!

Lovely lake, don’t try swimming
Aug 2019
We took the grandchildren today, promising a swim at Rainbow Point campground. The lake is closed to swimming due to a toxic algae problem. The water didn’t look good, and didn’t smell good. There were a few brave souls out on standup boards. And the mosquitoes were ferocious! Check with the Ranger Station before you go. We didn’t.
