Bärenschützklamm is a steep, narrow path, consisting of over fifty wooden ladders, lead among rocks, through forests and by wonderful waterfalls. It is a fantastic place not only to relax, to be close to nature or to check own hiking skills but also to observe wild species of animals (e.g. mammals, birds). This path is really worth hiking!

Its very beautifull there a good day trip although i would not recommand it with small children as the stairs is steep as well as some one who has fear of hights be careful it can be very hight.. The view is excellent woth to visit the waterfall is amazing..
Only thing we didnt understand is that they didnt write or give instruction about "Jausenplatz" / place to take some rest and refreshment/ at the end of the hiking how long or how far is that to reach. After about 1.5 hrs of hiking claiming to the stairs couldbe nice to take some refreshment we searched for it quiet a while in the forest by the end of the trip still didnt find it and plus the way back is also not clear so we took the same way as we got to the end of point where it says "Ausstieg".

luck of instruction on the road and clear information that is usually writen everywhere in Austria..
Another thing we would say go maybe in the afternoon. When we entered there a lady at the desk and we had to pay for the entrance but when we came back she wasnt there and people could go for free which i dont understand if she leaves the entrance open and whoever comes in the afternoon can enter for free then why we need to pay for the entrance in the morning ? i didnt understand this part not free in the morning and free in the afternoon ...even though its little money as 3.50e
Euro but still...hm...

First I recommend to visit during workweek, because its crowdy during weekend. After you park your car, you take up to 50mins of walking - still up to entrance. They you pay symbolic fee (Alpenverein discount) cca 3€ and you continue. You pass nice bridges, ladders (162 pcs) and after 1-2 hours based on your energy you finish it. After next 20mins you get into hutte, where you can get refreshed. There is another forest wy to get back.. I can recommend ! and it is not easy !

The landscape was very beautiful, sadly I could not enjoy it at because of my fear of heights. Some of the ladders are exposed and in general the whole climb is highly stressful if you are like me and prefer to see an actual floor under your feet (through the steps it’s possible to see what’s (not) bellow). All the people I went with enjoyed it and recommend though. If you are afraid of heights (or more exposed sections), don’t go.

Mixnitz is located a little north of Graz with the start of the barenshutzklamm a short walk away from the car park. The country side is beautiful as you negotiate the valley track leading to the entry hut. The path is quite rocky so robust shoes/boots are recommended. There is a small entry fee to pay at the hut, 3€. Portals toilets are available but they are typically a bit ‘ripe’.

The climb itself is one way (up) and consists of mostly timber bridges, stairs and ramp ladders. All of them have handrails. It’s quite an installation and very well maintained. There were two fellows replacing handrails the day we visited. Water was still running in August. I imagine the timbers could get quite slippery from the mist in high flow periods.

The system takes you up a canyon that normally could only be accessed using rope and rock climbing. It is quite beautiful and a good leg work out as well. A welcome bar/hut greets you not far from the top. A number of other trails spread out from here however we took the direct descent that loops back down to the entry hut. This is a nice walk through the forest however hiking shoes/boots are recommended as it is rather rocky in places.

There are a couple of restaurant/bars at the head of the car park as well.

A great day trip.

It's a whole day program, it's worth getting started early because sometimes it's a big crowd. Base length: 9.7 km, difference level: 740 meters up, the same down.
We start from a large free parking area in Mixnitz (492 m), on a wide, slightly uphill road. In a few minutes, we reach the first waterfalls (the most spectacular ones). Then go on on the red-white-red hiking path 745 no. The first part of the tour is a wide road, sometimes very steep. By the time you reach the entrance of te canyon (about 1 hour), you'll be tired.
Admission (2018): Adults: 3,50 €, children (6-16): 2,60 €, group (30 people): 3,00 €
It’s a well-constructed canyon, with many ladders and bridges. You need to have stable, non-slip shoes, have drink and food with you. You will need both hands and a lot of strength. The tour is difficult, not for small children or for acrophobians.
There are some resting places, but there is no place to stop anywhere, because the people be-hind you cant bypass. At the end of the canyon, after a long ladder climb, you reach the Gas-thaus zum Guten Hirten Hütten (1209 m) through a pine forest.
After a small rest / frankfurter, you can go in the direction of the small house towards the woods, and reach Hochlantsch and Schüsserlbrunn chapel (well worth it!). Or take the No.746 road before the inn to go back to the parking area. Part of the road is a wide road, but some-how it is a rocky / dirt forest trail, which is quite slippery in rain.

A kanyonban jól kiépített útvonalon, rengeteg létrán, hídon haladunk.

A perfect day trip from Graz. You can go here by public transport but need to walk about 1 hour to the entrance of the klamm. It costs some money to enter so bring cash. They have a toilet at the entrance.

Don't go here after heavy rain because the steps will be very slippery then. You need to have a normal level of fitness for this, it is relatively steep but definetly not a problem if you can walk for 2 hours without a problem. Don't go on a saturday or sunday if possible, I was there on a friday and we were almost alone then. Once you reached the end you can continue up to Hochlantsch if you are not already done with hiking for the day.

This place is unbelievable. It worth every energy spent on arriving there and going through it. The view is stunning and it is really refreshing exercise. Some practical point: When going up to the canyon there is a source where you can fill your water bottle. The water is nice fresh. Better than anything you can bring. Be prepares for an extensive climbing. So if someone have problem with climbing steep stairs should not start. The path is one way and one can't turn around due to the ones coming behind. There are resting places on the way tough. When you go there be prepared with cash in Euro. At the entrance ( about 1km from the parking lot) you need to buy a ticket (3,50) which they use for the maintenance of the stairs. Cash only, Euro. At the top there is a very nice cozy restaurant where you can have real Austrian restaurant. Also cash only.

Definitely have something to eat at the top as coming down also takes some time and so you are not desperate and can enjoy the view and the nature.

As I told it worth all efforts and it pays off with the incredible experience that you will NEVER forget!!!
