About
One of the most popular beaches in Palermo, this suburban beach offers crystal clear waters and beautiful sand right by the town of Modello. There's a small free public section of beach where you can set up your beach towels, or you can rent a lounge chair and umbrella along the private beach club areas—be early as it gets busy, especially during summer. There are also many waterfront bars and restaurants for a taste of Sicilian cuisine with a view. On the north end of Mondello Beach, you can rent a boat or hire a boat tour to explore Palermo’s beautiful shore, including Capo Gallo Nature Reserve. – Tripadvisor

Great beach but crowded on Sunday
This is the beach closest to Palermo and you could get here by public transport (bus). Recommend to buy ticket from Tobacco shop in advance as busses are full. Ticket for 24 hours cost €3.50 and you can use it on any buses whole day. You need to validate it once you got onto first-bus. Tickets were checked regularly as it was Sunday . We arrived at 10 and already main beaches were Sold out. There is an option to pre book your sun lounge online however we didn’t know we could do that. We joined the queue for the beach where you can book sun lounges on the day. Price is €30 for 2 beds and an umbrella and half price after 2pm. They close at 7pm. You also need to give €2 cash deposit for a bracelet that you need to return at the end of the day. The queue was 45 mins however option to be on public beach was not feasible. It was packed as sardines! The beach itself is beautiful. Water is warm, clean, transparent and looks like Adriatic Sea. There are few places to buy pizza, sandwiches, granatta, ice cream, water. All very reasonable. We loved our day even at the start it was a bit of a hustle. The beach itself

    Nice until 10 a.m. overcrowded between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Very nice beach in amazing bay surrounded by mountains.Very clean in the morning untill 10 a.m. But between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m very very crowded and not clean. After 6 p.m. less crowded but still not clean as in the morning. In the morning water is refreshing ,in the evening warm. There are small local restaurant, few night clubs, apartments, one or two hotels, few only for members clubs. In the night is relaxed atmosphere ,people are having lunch, walking or playing basketball. There are old nice vilas.Bus 806 connects it with centre of Palermo until 11 pm.Later there are night busses. It is nice but not exclusive area.

    A beauBeach
This beach is beautiful, white sand and crystal blue water. Be prepared to pay top dollar for sun beds and umbrellas and they are not in top condition. You also get hassled by people trying to sell you things including a massage. Worth a visit its a beautiful beach.

    Not for tourists
Honestly the water was full of gunk and nothing like the pictures. Most of the beach is covered in private rental chairs with only small area for public which is extremely crammed. If you want the clear water you’re paying about 20€ per person and you have to buy their food and drink you can’t bring your own. Half the entire beach is also membership only so not very tourist friendly. Honestly was very disappointing I would skip Mondello and go to Termini Immerse the town was very charming and the water was beautiful. If i want to pay to get onto a disappointing beach I’ll just stay home and go to the Jersey Shore.

Not as bad as reviewed elsewhere
We came from Palermo for a 2-3 hours without booking a Lido (a spot in a private beach), Friday at 16:00. We were 2, so we bathed 1 by 1, saw other couples go together to the sea - I guess they felt safe enough. The beach outside the Lido's is a small strip of sand (can be seen in the pictures) that was crowded especially by locals, but not too crowded. The sea was extremely quiet, as a sea "hater" I did enjoyed my visit. Remember that the downside of visiting the beach without a Lido spot - no showers or restrooms nearby.

    Be curious and explore!
Avoid the busy and expensive beaches and venture up to Natural Reserve. It’s a 20 min walk from the Piazza and is only 1 euro if on foot! Much more scenic and adventurous as you have the same water but with beneath a huge mountain. Beautiful natural spot to swim!!

Not worth visiting at all. It was filthy. Litter / Rubbish everywhere and lots of teenagers with loud speakers blasting music. Looks nothing like it does online. Don’t waste your time.

Mondello Bay is brilliant for families. The water is not deep closer to shore. The water is lovely. The beach is long and sandy. The setting is great.

Great beach and it’s fine to go to the free beach but you just need to bring something to lie on. There aren’t many restaurants next to the beach but it’s still a nice location,

Pretty underwhelming for what we expected. If you're thinking about visiting Mondello over another beach in Palermo, don't waste your time. There was seaweed in the water, overprice lidos and not great food/drink options.

Have to pay to just use a shower! Will not return. Overcrowded. Water & sand nice. Just get tired of beach vendors, having to pay for a basic rinse off before leaving!

The water was clean, we litteraly saw fishes around us, that experience was okey. The restaurants and bar are good.

But, the service is really unfriendly, thay dont know one word in english to say, when they are about to close they was rude and stay behind us like a police. Before, when we just came in we polite asked a man who worked there to help us with broken umbrella, but he was no interested in all, he continued to chat with his friend.
The sellers are very agresive and loud, you can not read and enjoy the moment.
