There was a rock slide in the recent past that blocked off the middle portion of the trail, which is currently blocked. The lower half of the trail has enough of an incline and elevation change to give you a good workout. You can also drive to the top and walk back down part of the way, also good elevation... More

I am very glad that I visited the Monument. The pathway was mostly closed, but at the top of the road, you could hike to the North and South outlook points. The history in the ranger station was educational. The museum, however, was unfortunately closed Sunday. That was the only day that I could visit, as it was socked in... More

We loved the Scottsbluff National Monument Park ! The video about the history of the great plains and the picture gallery at the information center was quite informative (about the Oregon trail, the Mormon trail, and Hiram Scott's life). The park is well-maintained and had a nice little souvenir shop as well. The staff/officer was friendly and she helped us... More

The Monument Valley Pathway is well worth the visit. The park staff is amazing and the views as you walk or drive around are incredible. Part of the walking path allows you to walk in the footsteps of the pioneers, following the actual route of the oregon trail.

The path up the Monument along the east side is closed indefinately due to a rock slide. You can still walk the highway to the top along the west side and through the car tunnels for beautiful vistas of the Platte River Valley. Park staff encourage you to be down by 8 a.m. but they won't throw you over the... More

We were last car down as the thunderstorms rolled in. Dramatic evening light contrasted with the gentle morning-after-the-night before. Very helpful and knowledgeable NPS staff who were happy to engage in an extended and fascinating conversation with us. A little gem in the NPS collection.

On a hot day it's easy to imagine the difficulties faced by the pioneers. We walked the path and looked at views that were once seen by travelers on the road to a new life and contemplated how different the times were. It was a peaceful walk and great views.
