The museum really shows Nevada's history. You can visit this museum in an hour or two. The downtown location is great. Loved the mining exhibit. My kids enjoyed seeing the animals (preserved). A nice way to get to know our state.

The com stock load was important to provide funding for the civil war. President Lincoln fought against slavery because freedom is the order of heaven allowing all men to be free and equal. I respect the symbol of freedom and sovereignty the coin currency offered. Freedom had a price. The com stock load provided silver and gold coins to be... More

This is a well organized and interesting museum which reflects on the history and development of Nevada. Information is given on the original peoples, silver and gold mining development, and many other interesting historical events. It's well worth a visit.

We enjoyed our visit to the Nevada State Museum during a day out to Carson City from Lake Tahoe. A pre-arranged tour was helpful to make best use of limited time, and my group was led by a very well-informed knowledgeable and enthusiastic volunteer. Fascinating history, worth a visit.

Caught this place an hour before it closed and so glad, such a great collection of history and information. Everything from gold rush and mining to vintage motorcycles and Native American history. Being right on the main road in Carson City just down from the governors mansion, it's easy to find and get to.

We took our ten year old grandson (at his request). He had been on a visit with his class and they were not able to spend a lot of time there. This time through, we let him be the guide and go wherever he wanted and stay at the exhibits for as long as he wanted. He really enjoyed it... More

A very artistic and creative person(s) organized this museum. Has lots of old west artifacts, a mine that you can go down into, an old west town to stroll through, stuffed animals indigenous to the area and lots of events.

It's the old Carson City Mint. Nice look at history. Very cool ghost town and mine exhibit. In the Mint section there is a neat movie about the history of Virginia City, Carson City, and the Mint. For those of you who like geology, there are some cool things to see. A mammoth skeleton and a ice age horse as... More

Really worthwhile to visit, beautifully curated and maintained . The natural history and taxidermy was fascinating as was the collaboration with Native American groups . There was even a display of basket ware found in caves dating back 1300 years . The skeletons of dinosaurs and other animals were super interesting for the younger visitors . The coin , mint...
